Youve chosen to apply for the job so isnt that surely enough of a reason!? The hiring manager likes to ask this question to help determine whether you are the right person for the role. Will the answer you provide demonstrate a genuine interest in the role? Or will it showcase a lack of enthusiasm and passion for the job at stake? Therefore its important that however you choose to answer this, your response is authentic and informative. Know all there is about the job role beforehand Do your research! Hopefully, before an interview, you will have read EVERYTHING about the job role and potential employer so this part should be pretty easy for you. But if you havent already done this do it now! Read and read again the original job advert and make a note of the requirements and job description. As this will make the bulk of your answer to this common interview question. If you mention specific examples stated in the job description and express how you have the experience and knowledge to perform this well it could really impress the interviewer! Avoid a generic answer such as, My previous role was similar to this so I think Ill be good at it. Instead, use specific examples from past employment and how this can help you excel in the potential new role. Demonstrate an interest in the company Take your answer one step further and incorporate the company into your answer. Because after all, a job is not simply the role but the company culture in which you will be working. Therefore Example answer When I first noticed the job vacancy I had no doubt that this role would be right for me and I think this is due to multiple different reasons. First off the specific job requirements such as having the ability to form strong relationships with key stakeholders is something I have previous and extensive experience in. Not only do I have this but it is also something I enjoy doing on a day to day basis. The communicational aspect of this is something that comes naturally to me therefore when I read the job description I knew it was right for me. In addition to this, I see your company as a place I have always envisaged myself working at.
